Hi Solay. I didn't see any email from you, so am responding to this comment here. It is interesting that you mention that the Tabletop makes you feel nauseous, but I wonder if it isn't the Spin. Although you can do the number of repetitions OK physically, the vestibular system in the inner ear can take some time to adjust. I wonder if you cut back on the number of spins and then tried the Tabletop and see if that improves things.
No, it doesn't matter if you build up at a different rate to the others as you will catch up in time. The main thing the monks recommended was to do just 3 of each in your 1st week, then add 2 per week for every week after that. It will take you 10 weeks to do the full 21 this way. Most commonly, I see people wanting to get to 21 quickly and get dizziness, nausea, a sense of not being quite in their bodies, changes to sleep, scattered mind and more variable moods. These are generally a sign of too many, too quickly so try that as well. All the best, Carolinda

I so appreciate your commentary on adjusting positions. Some of the rites I can do fully well, so do the recommended number, but others I cannot complete. For instance I can do 17-21 #1 just fine, but the #4 Table I can do only 5-6 ....I have learned to do the Table very slowly, as on occasion I got very nauseous. So, do I default to the lower # of repetitions to keep all rites at the same number? Please respond to my email. Thank you

Hi Barb. The Five Tibetan Rites are a spiritual practice developed centuries ago. The intention is to raise life energy or Qi through the spinning of the chakras for the purpose of anti-aging. Without fine-measuring tools to quantify these effects, I and everyone else who practices the Rites currently only have the monks' explanation for this. I can imagine, as a dancer, you feel the absence of a balancing turn as your body is so finely tuned to expect one. In this instance, only you can decide what you want to achieve out of practicing the Rites and what your body responds best to. To complicate matters, there is the ''energy" of dance and the "energy" that the monks are referring to for you to discern between - however, an interesting exercise in mindfulness and beingness - which brings us back to the spiritual!

I am a dancers . All dance exercises are practiced equally on both sides . Why not the spins ? I can feel my right leg asking why ? I was doing 10 each side . Maybe I should do 21 each side . When I was dancing the 5 rites helped me be a better turner on both sides . Your thoughts. ? Thanks

Hi Eric. I agree.
Many people agree with the benefit of cold showers, but I'll never be a proponent! I avoid cold water after years of swimming training in extremely cold pools. It put me off forever.
Have fun learning and practicing.
Best wishes. Carolinda

Carolinda,

Thank you very much for your thoughtful response. I can't imagine what would have motivated the publisher to add this bit about avoiding cold baths and showers. Perhaps he had a side business selling hot water heaters :). At any rate, I am reassured by your observations and will continue with my daily practice of the Five Rites and my invigorating cold showers.

Hi Eric. No, I really don't think so. The Rites are alleged to be over 2,500 years old according to <em>The Eye of Revelation.</em> The monks would surely only have cold water to bathe in back then and as for showers - I somewhat doubt they had them then.
Don't get me wrong, I believe in the benefits of the Rites but I also believe as did my friend, antiquarian bookseller and collector, Jerry Watt, that the publisher of <em>The Eye of Revelation'</em> may (highly likely) have added some of his own material. Please read this article on my website which explains why - https://t5t.com/the-influence-of-others-on-the-five-tibetans

Carolinda,

In "The Eye of Revelation," COL Bradford is quoted as stating the following: "One thing I must caution you against: you must never take a shower, tub, or wet towel bath which is cold enough to chill you even slightly internally. If you do, you will have
undone all the good you have gained from performing the Five Rites." Do you have any thoughts about this? Do you think it is really necessary to forego cold showers or baths so as not to undo the benefits of the Five Rites? Thank you very much, Eric

I have practiced yoga for many years but after having a baby (my third child) I needed some exercise that would put me back in shape and that took as little time as possible to do! T5T has been exactly what I needed. Now If I miss a day or two, I feel unbalanced, uncentred, and low energy. They are so simple, yet so powerful in their effect. Thank you Carolinda!
